Starting August 1, Trump Media & Technology Group is launching Truth API — a paid data feed that delivers posts from Truth Social’s ten most-followed accounts, including Trump’s own, several milliseconds before they reach the public feed. The subscription runs $100,000 a month, or $60,000 with a three-year contract.
The buyers aren’t casual readers. They’re high-frequency trading firms and algorithmic desks — institutions built to act on information in a fraction of a second.
That raises an obvious question: isn’t paying to know something before everyone else just insider trading with a subscription fee attached? Not under U.S. securities law. Insider trading rules police material non-public information — facts the market hasn’t seen yet. Truth API doesn’t sell secrets. It sells a head start on information that’s about to become public anyway. Everyone eventually reads the same post. Subscribers just read it a few milliseconds sooner.
That distinction — old news in new packaging — is the same logic that built the high-frequency trading industry. Exchanges run on time priority: when two orders sit at the identical price, whichever one arrived first gets filled. It sounds trivial until you do the math. The human eye blinks in about a third of a second; in that window, a fast trading system can execute thousands of orders. A speed edge measured in milliseconds, applied to a large enough position, adds up to real money — which is exactly the logic behind a subscription fee this size.
What Truth API makes explicit is something markets have always run on quietly: information doesn’t need to be secret to be valuable. Being early is its own edge, priced and sold like any other input.
None of this changes what an everyday investor should buy — but it’s a clear reminder that in fast-moving markets, some seats at the table are simply built to be faster than others.
